The premium seven-seater SUV segment in India is poised for a major transformation with several new launches anticipated in the coming months. These SUVs cater to individuals seeking ample space, practicality, luxury, and a commanding presence on the road. The upcoming models span various fuel options, including diesel, petrol, and hybrid powertrains. Here’s an in-depth look at what to expect:
MG Majestor: A Behemoth with Tech and Off-Road Capabilities
MG Motor India is set to unveil its new D+ segment SUV, the Majestor, in April 2026. Unveiled globally earlier this year, the Majestor offers a blend of luxury and off-road prowess. This five-meter-long vehicle provides ample space for seven passengers.
The Majestor boasts a feature-rich interior, featuring:
- A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
- Powered and ventilated front seats with massage functions.
- Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
- Panoramic sunroof.
- Wireless charger.
Powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, delivering 213 hp and 479 Nm, the Majestor is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also includes a low-range transfer case, capable 4×4 hardware, 10 terrain modes, three differential locks, and selectable crawl control. The SUV can wade through water up to 810 mm deep.
Expected prices are in the range of ₹48 lakh ex-showroom, and it will be sold through regular MG showrooms rather than the ‘Select’ network.
New Generation Toyota Fortuner: A Proven Nameplate Getting Better
The Fortuner, a well-established nameplate in this segment, is set for a generational update. Test mule sightings suggest minimal design changes, primarily inspired by the ninth generation Hilux’s aesthetics, especially its ‘Cybersumo’ face. The rear end may feature connected LED tail lamps and a revised bumper.
The cabin is expected to receive significant enhancements, offering improved features and trim levels with premium materials. Highlights include an all-digital instrument cluster and an upgraded infotainment system.
Under the hood, the new Fortuner will likely retain the existing 2.7L petrol and 2.8L diesel engines but may receive a 48V mild hybrid upgrade.
Skoda Kodiaq RS: A Performance-Focused SUV
The Skoda Kodiaq RS, already available in international markets, is expected to make its way to India soon. This performance-oriented variant offers a more dynamic driving experience without compromising on practicality. It boasts a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 180 hp and 320 Nm, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The Kodiaq RS stands out with its sportier exterior, including revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a subtle diffuser. The interior offers sport seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and performance-oriented instrumentation.
Other Upcoming Premium 7 Seaters
In addition to the aforementioned models, several other premium seven-seater SUVs are in the pipeline or expected to be launched soon:
- Mahindra Scorpio N: An updated version of the popular Scorpio, featuring a more powerful engine and improved features.
- Kia Seltos/Honda HR-V: These compact SUVs offer excellent practicality, fuel efficiency, and modern amenities, making them attractive options for families.
- Tata Nexon MPV: Tata Motors is believed to be working on a seven-seater version of the popular Nexon, targeting budget-conscious buyers seeking SUV-like features and space.
