Lyft Sued by Rider Who Claims Driver Told Her She’s Too Big for His Car
A Detroit woman, Dajua Blanding (also known as Dank Demoss), is suing Lyft and a driver after she says he refused her a ride due to her weight.
According to TMZ, the incident occurred when Blanding requested a Lyft to take her to watch an NFL game with her cousin. The driver, who arrived in his Mercedes-Benz sedan, locked his doors upon seeing her and denied her entry. He claimed she was "too big to fit in the back seat" and that his tires couldn’t support her weight.
Blanding is suing Lyft and the driver for allegedly violating Michigan’s civil rights laws against discrimination based on weight. She claims she suffered emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, fear, and mortification.
A Lyft spokesperson stated: "Lyft unequivocally condemns all forms of discrimination… Our community guidelines and terms of service explicitly prohibit harassment or discrimination."
