GAC: Australia’s Top 10 Car Brand by 2029?

Chinese car brand GAC previously aimed to crack Australia’s top 10 best-selling brands within five years. Now, they’re targeting an even quicker expansion timeline – just three years.
Rapid Expansion Plans
GAC, or Guangzhou Automobile Group, joined the Australian market with a focus on electric vehicles (EVs) like the new Aion UT hatch. Kevin Shu, local CEO, believes GAC can achieve its ambitious goal sooner than expected:
"Within five years, with 10 models, with more than 100 [dealer] network together, we can enter the top 10… maybe one year or two years earlier to achieve this target."
Competing in a Crowded Market
If GAC succeeds, they’ll join other Chinese carmakers like BYD and MG who have already achieved this feat within a few short years of entering the market. Legacy brands GWM and Chery also consistently rank among Australia’s top 10 sellers.
How They Plan to Succeed
GAC attributes its potential success to several factors:
- Quality: Focusing on delivering quality vehicles.
- Supply Chain: Maintaining a stable parts supply through their large Melbourne warehouse.
- Segment Diversity: Offering models across various segments to appeal to diverse customer needs.
Long-Term Vision
Shu emphasized GAC’s commitment to Australia:
"We launched in Australia for Australia… We plan to integrate into Australia, survive… and contribute to the nation along with our partners, customers, and dealerships."
